I Saved Books from Death by Dumpster

How many would you say this is? 50 – 100 books?

I’m not sure as I neglected to count, but I saved them all from a dumpster.

Long story short, someone I am acquainted with was moving, I saw the books being thrown out, and I retrieved them.

I feel like I ought to mention that though I am referring to this as a ‘dumpster’ it was one of those long structures that people who are moving throw broken chairs and such like that into. It wasn’t actually rubbish that was inside.

I’ve also learned that I am quite adept at climbing. It’s either from dance or from the fact that I climbed trees when I was 10.

I now want to go through what I found because I find this exciting.

This is a whole series of books about art museums. They feature the paintings and sculptures of the museums and give details about the piece of art. Look at how beautiful the book is; how glossy the pages are. She was throwing these out!

I also found this classic looking edition of Freckles. I love this book; it was fabulous. I didn’t have a copy, so I was really excited to find this one. And then, I discovered this:

It doesn’t just look old and classic, it is old and classic!

There was a dedication page in the front of the book; written four years after the book was printed.

It also looks beautiful with my Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre that I found at a book sale last year.

I found a golf score card being used as a bookmark.

I found this in the book that I mention next. I’ve left the image larger than the rest so that you could read it. You won’t be disappointed.

 

 

I really love the way this one looks. Its so small and portable.

I am looking forward to reading these three and adding them to my book collection. I just love the way that they look. I’ve just started reading ‘The Man in Lower Ten‘. I’m on page five.

I found an old test in one of the textbooks. It is dated 1949.

There were a lot of textbooks as evidenced above, with two non-fiction about presidents.

These are the books, stacked in piles.

If it is nice out today I want to put them outside on a table and air them out with fresh air to get rid of the old book smell.

I am keeping some of these, donating some to a book sale, planning to offer three of them to a friend, and the rest of them I want to put into Little Free Libraries.
